In a dimly lit room from the weak glow of a not rising sun yet slept a baby dragon on a grand bed with his adopted mother. The blue and yellow striped dragon slept soundly close to his mother, a soft twitch from his tail as he dreamed away without fears. Soon the sun peaked onto the rooms floor and snaked across the ground to the bed where its warm rays bathed the two waking the hatchling.


“Mother” I said softly “Mother you up?” I started to wag my tail thumping it against the bed knowing that today she promised we go to the lake “Mother! the sun is rising!” I then gave her licks to the face and she started to stir awake.


“Good morning son" she said half asleep. "Ok ok im up” mother chuckled and I stopped and smiled getting up and jumped out of bed running to the window to go see the lake in the distance.


“Mother the sun is up* I was so excited that my tail wagging made my whole rear wag to “ Im so excited to go to the lake. it sounds exciting. I've never swam before.” I jumped down from the windows ledge and ran back and forth.

“Calm down son, give me some time to get ready for the day” she said as she got into my path making me stop. She got both her hands and held my cheeks and gave my snout a kiss, I smiled and returned with a lick. “Now just wait a bit as I need to change then brush my hair and then do your mane”

I sat and waited impatiently as mother changed. “Mother why don’t I where clothes” I asked as she got out of her nightgown and had no clothing then she put on her day dress.


“Because you are full of too much energy and you would slip right out of anything I try to fit on you” mother said smiling as she approached me with a brush. I growled at it not enjoying the pulling and tugging it did. “Hush you, I can't have my handsome boy going out with a bed head” I just kept growling as she ran the comb through my mane every pull yanked my head just making me let another growl.


“There all done now you are my handsome boy” I just hissed at the brush not liking it.


“Can we go now?” asked feeling like hours have passed already.


“Soon son, first to the kitchen so I can pack us a lunch”

My whiskers and ears drooped down “I’ll wait here for you then?” I asked not wanting to go out into common areas.


“No because I’m not coming back up here once on the main level”


I sighed and followed mother out the room door, luckily the top floor where mother slept was empty of any one else except for the servants that came up here to do their duties. As mother walked I kept close to her almost bumping if she slowed down.


Mother kept walking down the hallway and I followed. People were around as the castle is full of so many humans that all serve mother but I dont like any of them. I kept close to her with my head down low and tail low, being uncomfortable around so many humans. Mother stopped to talk to the guard captain and I hid behind mother as she talked then he tried to talk to me.


“Hey there, How are you this morning champ” I just hid my head behind mother as he made eye contact with me. “Dont be scared. My name is Ronald, I'm the captain of the guards, remember me? Come on give me a high paw”. He held his hand out for his little greet wanting a return gesture back. I Growled at his hand and bared fangs, then a sudden swat to my snout to which I whined in pain.


“Son that is no way to treat someone who is trying to be nice to you. Apologize to him now”.


“S-sorry, Captain Ronald” i said soft and looking down at the floor and whimpering as the two grown ups said their farewells and we were off again.


Finally we made it into the kitchen, mother walked up to a large counter I padded to the other side and got up with forpaws on the table watching as she packed a basket.


My tail wagged as i watched her put all the wonderful fresh food in the basket. She held out a red fruit for me and I sniffed it, there was a sweet scent to it, I decided to open my maw and chew on it. It was absolutely sweet and delicious.


“Mother what was that" I said, shocked and awed. "I would love another please”.


“That is an Apple son and sure you can have other, ready for it?”. She held it and gave a motion that she was going to toss it up, I waited in anticipation and then it flew up in the air. My focus was all on the apple now, I stretched my neck out and snapped it up in my maw and bit hard into soft fruit which exploded into pieces. I happily ate it and looked at mother only giggling as I noticed some apple got on her face, I licked it off her real fast.


“Ok son all packed now, you ready to go to the lake?” Mother said.


“YES YES YES YES” I exclaimed loudly giving off a little yipping too.


“Calm down pup” mother smiled and laughed as she headed out the kitchen back door holding it open for me as I darted out and dashed down the trail to the lake looking back at mother as she laughed while trying to keep up with me.


“Hurry mother I want to play in the water!”.
